Education
Steve attended and graduated from Black Hawk College in 1979.
Career
Steve went to work as a manager for his family's business, Meersman's Bon-Air Inc. Finding his future in the family business came natural as he was 3rd generation and had worked part time for several years. Steve quickly became responsible for all day-to-day operations for the next 40 years. During those years, he served on many community boards, including the Jaycees, Crime Stoppers, Easter Seals/Children's Therapy Center of the Quad Cities, Moline Riverfest, and Rock Island County Fair board. He was also chosen as the Illinois Licensed Beverage Association's Area 39 president and held the position for more than 20 years. When the Quad Cities International Airport developed to become the third-largest airport in Illinois, Steve was appointed to a board seat that became vacant in 1997 and served for 5 years, of which two were spent as treasurer. He was requested to fill a vacancy on the Rock Island County Board of Supervisors, District 7, in August 2004. Steve held that position for more than 10 years, including five of those as chairman of the Health and Human Services Committee. He also worked closely with the Council for Children at Risk and the University of Illinois.
Personal Life
Steve Meersman relocated to South Carolina in 2015 after retiring from the family business. Steve and his wife have been married for over 44 years. Together, they have one daughter and three wonderful grandchildren who reside in Guyton, Georgia.
