Proposed Hardeeville industrial park approved

A proposed multi-county industrial and business park, which includes agreements from the city of Hardeeville, and Jasper and Beaufort counties, will move forward, according to officials.

After Jasper County and Hardeeville had previously approved the project, Beaufort County Council voted unanimously to approve the agreement during its Oct. 22 meeting.

“This is your typical multi-county industrial park,” Beaufort Councilman Jerry Stewart said. “It’s in Jasper County, so Jasper County is the main party. Under state statute, another county has to participate in the multi-county agreement and Beaufort County is a portion of it.”

Stewart said Jasper County will receive 99 percent of the proceeds from the park and Beaufort County will receive 1 percent, per the agreement.

“This is a standard agreement,” he said. “The park that was in existence, time had expired, so we have to renew it. This is for a new joint-county industrial park, the same as the one that existed previously.”

A resolution for the proposed park — named “Project Peach” — that would be at the RiverPort Business Park in Hardeeville was unanimously approved 4-0 at a special Hardeeville City Council meeting Oct. 9.

Both counties are working in conjunction with the Southern Carolina Regional Alliance. More details are tentatively scheduled to be announced next month.

“It will be mid-December before more information will be ready to be released in regards to this new agreement,” Kay Maxwell, Vice President of Marketing for Southern Carolina Regional Alliance said Thursday.
