Upscale Hardeeville RV park gets approved

RV Park

An upscale RV park is coming to Hardeeville after the City Council approved the second reading of the plan that expects to bring 950 RV campsites to 185 acres on U.S. 17.

Council originally approved two measures for the Compass RV park at its Sept. 20 meeting but tabled approving the master plan after concerns from Camp Lake Jasper RV about a legal dispute with the Florida-based developer.

An attorney representing CLJ Holdings informed the council at Thursday’s meeting about a lawsuit it filed against Compass RV.

Hardeeville is not part of the lawsuit, however, and Mike Czymbor, city manager, recommended to council that it adopt the master plan. Hardeeville Mayor Harry Williams asked council members to simply vote on if they want to bring Compass RV’s park to Hardeeville.

“There is no pending legal action against this city,” he said. “The question is, ‘Do we want this RV park or not?’”

The motion passed 4-0.

Williams noted he wishes success for Camp Lake Jasper and Compass RV.

“We are not taking sides,” he said. “We want Camp Lake Jasper to prosper and we want Compass RV to prosper as well.”

The proposal for the Compass RV park, which will be less than a mile south of Exit 5 off I-95, will also include cabins, a general store and a swimming pool and areas for pickleball, bocce, and tennis.

The master plan includes options for a dog park, kayaking, and canoeing, amphitheater, mini-golf, leisure trails, a commercial district with storage facilities, retailing and offices, and a restaurant.
